Before you get started:
Be sure to read about special notes regarding your Ascend units.
Skip to the bottom of this document for Special Notes now, if:
- You own a Pipeline 130
- You own a Pipeline 50 with an S interface (model # P50-1SBRI)
- You own a Pipeline 50/75/85 unit with serial number above 7220000
To identify your current software load:
- Obtain access to your ascend unit.
- In the System menu, select Sys Diag, followed by Term Serv.
- Under Terminal Server mode, the command "Show Revision"
(ver 5.0&up)will show you the correct file name you
need to download.
example:
ascend% show revision
ascend system revision: tik.m40 6.0.0
- If the identical filename cannot be found in the ftp site,
refer to the feature map to identify the binary file
that you need.
File name convention
- For software 4.6Cp22 and above, filenames are arranged in
the format shown below:
<file type><interface><feature codes>.<platform extension>
example:
rtbik.m40
<r> - restricted load (* see version 6 note below)
<tb> - support for T1 and BRI interface
<ik> - support for ospf and 56k modem
<m40>- binary load for the MAX 4000 series platform
- Definitions of all the file, interface, and features types
are listed on later sections.
* For users upgrading to version 6 or above
- Any Ascend unit below version 6 might need to upgrade incrementally.
- Files larger than 1 MB contain a restricted load and a full load.
- Upload the restricted load first, reset, then upgrade to full load.
- For more information, refer to Upgrade-Instructions.txt
- Systems version 6 or above can upgrade straight to another full load.
File Types
f Full Load - Complete version of code for production environments.
r Restricted Load - Bare minimum code, only used between upgrades.

Special Notes
If your Pipeline 130 is running version 4.6 or below:
-----------------------------------------------------
The Pipeline 130 used to take the load "p50bri.bin".
This is no longer the case. Be sure to upload to
binary files with a "p13" extension.
If you own a Pipeline 130 with two 56k WAN ports
(model # P130-LS56-2N)
Use only the "54.p50" load on this model of Pipeline.
If you own a Pipeline 50 with an S interface (model # P50-1SBRI)
All Pipeline 50 with an S interface and a serial number below 814xxxx
should be upgraded with b.p50, ba.p50, or bi.p50. Do not load any
filename beginning with "b2" unless your Pipeline has a serial
number of 814xxx or above. Be sure to check the Sys Options
window to see which load of firmware your unit currently has
loaded before loading new software.
If you own a Pipeline 50/75/85 unit with serial number
above 7220000:
Pipeline 50, 75, and 85 units with serial number above 7220000
must only run software at or above version 5.1A. Do not upload
any version 4.6 or version 5.0 software to these units. If your
Pipeline is running version 5.0B, you should upgrade your Pipeline
unit to version 5.1A or above. Remember that the filename must
begin with "b2".
